- Do you already know what you want to be when you grow up? If you do, what things do you think you would have to do to achieve your goal? If you aren't sure yet about what you what to do (which probably will be most of you :) ) what possible careers would you consider, based on your interests and what you do well? What do you think you would have to do as a teenager and young adult in order to do these jobs?
Be sure to read the other comments of before you post. You may want to elaborate, contradict, agree or disagree with a point made. Note I will be moderating comments and will reject them if I feel that they are inappropriate or don't meet the length criteria. When I grow up I want to be an international business lawyer. I want to do this because I would get to travel and meet many influential people from all around the world and defend their companies. I would have to be very good at languages, which is why I am taking Latin and Chinese. Also, I know some Spanish and a bit of French, which should come in handy. I hope that I will be able to take some law and business classes throughout my later years in high school. College is a long way off, but I’m working hard now to get into a good pre-law program and later, a top ranked law school.

When I grow up I don’t know what I definitely want to be yet. I was thinking of being a teacher or a veterinarian. I want to be either one of these because I like working with kids but I also love animals. Some things I would need to do to achieve this goal are to get the best grades I can all through high school, and try the best I can. I think I would be good at either of these jobs because I am good with kids and animals. As a teenager and a young adult I would have to go to school for a while to get either of these jobs. This is what I want to be when I grow up.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple ideas on what I would like to be when I grow up. I share a interest in inventing and constructing things. I also have played ice hockey since I was 10. I have also tried acting as well and it seems like it would be fun. One of the cool things is that there are classes and clubs right here at Amity High School that can help my achieve any of theese goals. I can take tech class to work with building things and maybe I could become a engineer (like my Dad). Or I could make the Amity Hockey Team and end up imn the NHL. Or I could participate in the school play. Theese are all viable options for a proffesion, but im going to stick to being a student for now.

Then in my junior or senior years I want to take classes dealing with my hands and learning about electricity. When I get out of college I am giong to get my contractors license so I can start my own electircian buissness. Before I get my contractors license I need to get my apprentence licenses wich take two years each. I need to get two of those and I do another two years to get my contractors license.
ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up, I want to work in the film business. I'm not sure what I'd be though. I could be a cinematographer; those guys know how to work a camera, and have to get every shot possible. Maybe I'd be a producer, where I'd try to fill the house with people so the movie will make money. I could even be an actor, where I'd make the big bucks, and maybe get some awards. While "behind the scenes" people usually don't get much credit, they helped make a vision possible. When you're a teenager, some ways you can get involved with the film business is to take acting or filming classes, study film history, or even be an extra in the back ground. That's why I'd like to be in the film business when I grow up.

ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up I would like to be a lawyer. I if want to pursue my dream I will need to start reading a lot more and start studying for test a lot harder. To achieve my goal it will cause me to put a lot more reading because I don’t really like reading which is bad because lawyers have to read a lot of cases and crime screen reports. I will have to get good grades on test to get into a good college witch if I get good grades in that I will be able to go into a good law school. I would like to be lawyer because I love to fight for my point and not back down.

When I grow up, I want to be a computer/ video game designer. I would have to go to college and have a degree in computing. I believe it takes four years of college. If I can’t achieve my goal of computing, I would like to be a drummer or a lead singer in a rock band. I would need to practice my drumming every day for a few hours a day. I would like my band to be the next guns and roses. I would need to sing a lot and practice every day with my band, not just by myself.

In order to get there then I half to get really good grades and be a leader. I also have to do many extracurricular activities. I also have to stay in shape so that I can keep up with everyone else. I also have to get many recommendation letters so that the congressman will choose me to go since you have to be chosen by your congressman in order to get into West Point.

ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up I am not sure what I want to become. I have some ideas like a doctor or a scientist. I excel in math and science which are needed to become one of those professions. To pursue being a doctor I will have to do well in biology and math so I can get into a good college and then get into med school. To become a scientist I will have to do well in science and get into a good college also.

When I grow up I would want to be a MLB player. I want to be that because I love baseball. It’s my favorite sport and I like it a lot. What I need to do to get to the Major’s is practice a lot and get in real good shape. Go to the weight room and work on strength. If that doesn’t work out than I’d like to do something in Business. I would like to do something in that because it’s one of the best places to work to make a good amount of money. Also because I think I have good ideas for a company. What I need to do is take business courses in college and do well.

And to achieve this goal I would have to do good in school, take classes to learn how to work a computer right, and learn the programs I would have to use to be a Drafter. When I grow up I want to be either an engineer or a Scientist. I want to be an engineer because you can draft and create new items and it can be hands on a lot of the time. As an engineer you can create future like items at the time you make them, these will be very popular in a few years. On the other hand I would want to be a scientist you can explore new things and be very adventures. You can’t get the experience as a scientist like you could normally. This is because as a scientist you see thing in a whole new way with all the tools that you have. These are only my two top things that I would want to be when I grow up.

By being a therapist, I would be able to help people and have a job that I enjoy. When I grow, up I would like to be a lawyer, most likely a prosecutor. This is because I know that there is a big opportunity to make a lot of money and be successful, which is a big thing for me. Another reason I want to be a lawyer is because I want to ensure that everyone gets the proper punishment if they do something wrong. I think that I would be good at finding details that can win a case and send the criminal to jail…or worse. This is why I would like to be a lawyer when I grow up. –Jake-

ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up, I want to be a prefessional dancer or choreographer. To achieve my dream, I would have to graduate a dance based college or university and major in the dance department. To lead myself to this goal, I would need to go to an after school program such as ECA. And that is for high school students looking forward to be in the arts. And to lead out of high school, I would need to audition for various companies in the city such as "Clarity in Motion". Meanwhile I would be taking a tremendous amount of reccreational classes. Leading into college, I would audition for the famous Juliard or Suny Purchase college. Both are for majoring in dancing and the arts. From there, I would go into the city and audition for the well known show "So You Think You Can Dance". On the other hand, I could audition to be a choreographer such as Mia Micheals. ReplyDeleteI’m not really sure what I want to be when I grow up. One thing I would love to be is a professional basketball player. Basketball is my absolute favorite sport and I play all the time. To do this, I will have to enhance my basketball skills. Through practices and games I could bring my skills up to higher and better levels. It is going to take hours of hard work and sweat to accomplish my goal and it will all be well worth it in the end. Basketball player is by far the career that I would be most interested in.

When I grow up, I would like to become a rabbi. Even though I am Jewish, I still love to learn about different religions around the world. Because of this goal, I will probably need to do well in history, language, and maybe even science and math. Because there are many things you can do as I rabbi, I would have to possibbly do well in all those courses. As I rabbi, I would want to counsil families that are having relationship problems. Lately, every person I meet asks me this question. Something about being a high school senior makes everyone from your grandmother to your hairdresser want to know how you plan to spend the rest of your life. I used to think I wanted to be a professional musician, but now I have no idea. Professional musicians have to be incredibly lucky and talented to make a name for themselves in the music world, and that kind of uncertainty and instability is a major detraction. At this point in my life, I am perfectly content with simply applying to college with an undecided major and seeing what field I feel the most passionate about. Ana G.

I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up yet. I think it’s kind of early to make a decision since I don’t know what I’ll like to do in ten years. If I make a decision right now and work for it, it might end up being something I don’t like. Right now I really enjoy music, so I could be a musician. However, musicians usually have a low income and can barely live off of it. Musicians usually need a second job in order to live comfortably. I could also be a psychologist. I am good at reading peoples’ personalities and people have said I am easy to talk to. I’ll try my best in school so I can become whatever I want later on.

Sadly, no, I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up! But, one thing I do know is that I want to have enough money to support those important people in my life. There many careers that float around in my head from timeto time that I have considered! For example, I have thought about being a lawyer, childrens docter, and even an architecturer! I love to draw, have a strong sense of justice, and enjoy being around little kids. Now that I am older and more mature i am able to do much more when I scetch and build things. Recently I build a paintball fort in my woods with my dad and friend. I had to measure and draw out the blue prints exactly how I wanted the fort to be build. Since my dad is a contractor I understand more about the asspects and different things you need to do to sucessfully build something the right way. I will be a good lawyer too because if I am not the man who is innocent will go to jail and guilty will be free and roaming around and causing mayhem.

What do I want to be when I grow up? I want to be a mechanic, because I am third generation in the family. However though, I want to go to a school to learn more about it. So I can work on the new cars and trucks, and the old cars and trucks. If I do that I can be a pretty good mechanic because I will be able to work on new and old automobiles. Mainly though I will doing something I like to do, and to me that is very cool. However though if I can not pay for the school I can't go so it really depends on if I go to the school or not.

When I grow up I don’t know what I want to do. I haven’t set my heart on one goal yet, I have some possibilities that I would like to consider. A career that I think I might be interested in would be a guidance counselor. I like helping people solve their problems. I like seeing kids succeed in school. I know that teenagers sometimes have a difficult time dealing with problems. Some kids don’t have a lot of experience dealing with hard situations, other kids don’t realize that they can get into serious problems. Some kids don’t have big problems, but need someone they can rely on, a friendly face who can help point them in the right direction when they need some advice. I think that I have the qualities that would make a good counselor, I’m a problem solver and I like working with kids.

Ever since I was little I’ve always wanted to be an emergency room doctor. Becoming a doctor takes a lot of time and effort but it’s something I am willing to work for. To reach this goal I must start by receiving good grades in high school and going above and beyond what is expected for a high school student. Being an emergency room doctor is a very hectic and eventful job. Next summer I am going to be volunteering at Yale New Haven Hospital where I will learn what it takes to be working in busy environment with patients. This is something at will really help me when it comes time to start my profession. Also to reach my goal I must begin this year and continue my hard work. After high school, college is where I must being working even harder. In order to become a doctor I need to take many courses that will help me reach my goal. Becoming an emergency room doctor is going to be difficult but it’s something I’m eager to work for -Cassie M period 4
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what I what to be when I grow up. If I had to choose now though, I would choose to be a veterinarian. I would like to be a veterinarian because I like being around animals. Also, many vets only specialize in taking care of animals like dogs and cats, so when people have small rodents or a rabbit they don’t know were to take them. They usually have to take care for their animals on their own, and without any knowledge on helping sick or injured animals this could be a very difficult task. If I were a vet I would try to help with as many exotic animals and little pets as I could so that people would not worry about their animals and know that there is someone there that knows how to help their animals.

When I grow up I want to be an elementary school teacher. I like spending time with younger kids, and would enjoy the feeling of helping them learn. I think teachers really affect children and how they progress and work with others in the future. To do this, I am volunteering at Jewish Family Services, babysitting kids while their parents go to meetings. I also plan to go to college for teaching, and will hopefully have more teaching opportunities. So far my school experience has been very positive and I want to do my best to provide that for children to come.

I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up. In school, science has always been my favorite subject. The labs and projects that we’ve done in science class have always been very fun for me. So, maybe I would like to be some kind of biologist when I grow up. As a teenager and young adult, I need to do all I can to study hard and get good grades. To achieve my goal, I know that I have to work very hard throughout college. This is why I might want to be a biologist when I grow up.

I am not yet sure what career I am going to pursue when I grow up. I would consider a career in teaching because I really enjoy helping people learn to do things. I think I would be interested in teaching subjects having to do with art or cooking because those are two of my hobbies that I really enjoy doing. To achieve a goal like this I would have to first work hard in high school and get good grades so that I can get into a good college. Also, I would have to learn how to teach kids that all learn at their own levels and paces. Lastly, I would have to learn more about art and cooking or whichever subject I decide to teach, so that I could be the best possible teacher I can be.

I want to be a nurse when I grow up. I would like to be a nurse because I want to help people. I always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was nine. When I grow up I want to be a dentist. I want to be a dentist for many different reasons, but the main ones are as follows. The main reason why I want to be a dentist is that it seems well suited for me; for example, I can be patient and know how to take my time, which is extremely important in dentistry. Another reason why I would like to be a dentist is that it a dentist will always be needed for any family, and that means that I will have a steady form of income at all times. The final reason why I would like to be a dentist is that being a dentist is a job based on times. ReplyDeleteI’m not exactly sure what I want to be when I grow up. I’ve always thought about being a veterinarian just because I love animals and always have. I think that it would be an amazing profession; being able to see the smile on the owner’s face when you tell her that you saved her dog’s life. But on the other hand, being a vet would involve not only saving animals’ lives, but also having to put some down. Of course this would be sad and heartbreaking, but it is part of the job and if I really wanted to do this, I would need to take the good with the bad. Obviously this would require a lot of knowledge from many years of school and training. I would need to work hard to achieve my goal of becoming an outstanding veterinarian. But I feel that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to, and if I really did want to do this, I think I could.

I do not know what I want to be when I grow up. Possible careers I could put into consideration would have to be a job with action, and no sitting still. I could never work in an office in front of a computer all day, that job is not for me! I like to run around, get my body moving, and be productive. I also think I could be a high school teacher or other job that I can be involved with and help kids or those in need. In addition, I like science, mathematics, and social studies, so maybe a job in one of those fields will interest me later in life as a career. To conclude, I have no definite answer to this tough question, but some good ideas that will lead me down the path with the right answer.

All my life, my path has been clear. Make friends, have fun, and do well in school. But now that I stand on the brink of a new chapter in my life, I falter. What next? I have no idea as to what the future holds for me. It is not a problem of confidence; I know I can succeed. Why then do I not know where I am headed? And in the end, after a childhood of deliberation, I reach an inescapable conclusion. It is because I am actually comfortable not having a path. I am confident that life will give me opportunities. And that I will face all that comes my way with willingness. In the end, I will not measure my life by where I finish, it will be about how I got there.

I've never worried too much about my career because college has always seemed much more immanent. However, as I get closer to choosing colleges to apply to, I realize that having a rough idea of what kind of career I'd like to have would be helpful. I think that a factor that would significantly affect my happiness in any job is how well I could do it. Therefore, I should think very objectively about my skill set and compare it to some jobs that I am interested in. Right now, I think that I'd like to be an architect. In general, I am more suited to the humanities but I'm also pretty good at physics and geometry. I've spent a lot of time on CAD programs like Google sketch up and Unity. However, I am not set on being an architect and I'll continue to try different things.
I know this sounds corny, but when I grow up I want to be happy. To do this I have to know what makes me happy (which might change in a few years). Right now I want to be in a band and play at live concerts in huge venues with my best friends. If not, then I’ll become an actress, on stage, in movies, maybe a TV series or whatever. For both of these I have to work insanely hard. I’d have to practice my music a lot, write songs, maybe take acting classes, be in plays and audition for gigs and productions. That would make me happy. That is what I want to do when I grow up.

ReplyDeleteI never really knew what I want to be when I’m older. If I had to choose right now though, I would say a director for either movies or a television show. I've developed an interest in film and I've always enjoyed watching videos on YouTube that regular people make to replicate what we would see on TV. I’ve wanted to make videos as well, but I’m just not sure what I’d do. In school, I’d have to gain some sort of experience in working with “actors” and creating films – something I’m already on the track for this year.
